Leadership Team

Founder, Chairman, & Chief Executive Officer

Matt Brown is the Founder, CEO, and Chairman of CAIS. He has spent over 30 years at the intersection of wealth management, alternative investments, and platform design. He began his career as a financial advisor at Shearson Lehman Brothers and Smith Barney. In 2009, Matt founded CAIS, the first truly open marketplace for alternative investments, where financial advisors and asset managers can engage and transact directly on a massive scale. Financial advisors, the professionals we designate to oversee our economic futures, do not have the same access to alternative investments in comparison to large institutions. CAIS is changing that. Matt believes entrepreneurship is the major driver of economic and social change. He’s spent the better part of two decades working with Endeavor, the world’s leading organization for high impact entrepreneurs. During his tenure, he had the opportunity to mentor dozens of entrepreneurs from around the world, including Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Matt is honored to have been on Endeavor’s South African and Turkish Boards which ultimately led to a position on the Global Board of Directors. The experience deepened his belief that helping entrepreneurs build and scale their businesses promotes economic growth and prosperity. It’s Matt’s personal mission to ensure that anyone with a dream, and the drive to achieve it, have an equal opportunity to make it happen.


Director of Business Development, CAIS IQ

Michelle Browning is the Director of Business Development for CAIS IQ. Michelle has been in the financial services industry for over 20 years with 15 years of experience in alternative investments. Prior to CAIS, she worked at Merrill Lynch, ATEL Securities, LEAF Financial Corporation, W. P. Carey, AI Insight and Alternative Investment Exchange. Michelle received her BS from the University of Arizona and has held the FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.


Managing Director, Operations & Risk Management

Chris heads the Operations team and is responsible for platform funds and investment product operations, including onboarding, integration of workflows, reporting and advisor/manager relations. Chris also chairs the CAIS Operational Risk Management Committee. He has over 20 years of operational experience in alternative investment firms, including Mizuho, Vegasoul, Traxis Partners, and R. G. Niederhoffer Capital Management. Chris received his BS from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and MBA from Villanova University.


Chief Operating Officer

Brendan Cuddihy is the Chief Operating Officer at CAIS and is responsible for overseeing Fund Operations, Client Service, and Marketing teams. Brendan is responsible for funds and investment product operations, including onboarding, integration of workflows, reporting, and investor/manager relations. In addition, he is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of all marketing activities, including product launches, events, messaging, and thematic campaigns. He has over 8 years of experience in the asset management and financial services industry, having worked at US Bancorp and Moody’s Corporation. Brendan graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Economics and received his MBA from Marist College. Brendan holds his Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.


Head of Data

George Davies is the Head of Data and brings a unique blend of Wall Street experience, analytical skills, and technical knowledge to CAIS. Over the last 20 years, he has built up an impressive track record of developing innovative quantitative and technical solutions in the financial services and FinTech spaces. Prior to joining CAIS George spent over 10 years in the financial industry developing quantitative trading strategies, risk analytics and systems infrastructure, and most recently founded and managed the Data team at SmartAsset.


Director, Product Specialist

Tim Donaldson is a Director on the Alternatives Investment group at CAIS. He responsible for client management and product support in the South Central Region. Tim has over fourteen years of experience in the asset management and financial services industry at companies including PineBridge, Credit Suisse and Bear Stearns. He holds a BA from Hobart College.


Managing Director, Platform and Operations Technology

Mark Evans is responsible for the engineering and operation of platform technology and infrastructure at CAIS. Mark brings over 20 years of experience managing infrastructure, software delivery, quality assurance, and IT operations teams within the financial industry. Prior to joining CAIS, he spent 14 years at MarketAxess, and more recently, 6 years at AQR Capital Management, where he was Head of Production Engineering. Mark received his BA in English Literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo.


Director, Enterprise Relationship Management

Evangelia Karanikas is Director of Enterprise Relationship Management at CAIS. She oversees client management, onboarding and ongoing support, working closely with national accounts to understand their business requirements and integrate their processes to the platform. Evangelia has over 10 years of experience in alternative investments and wealth management. Prior to CAIS, she worked at JPMorgan and received her BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Evangelia holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.


Director of Marketing

Nicole Krempa is a Director of Marketing at CAIS where she oversees all marketing related activities. She brings over 15 years of experience within the financial services industry. Prior to joining CAIS, Nicole served as the Director of Alternative Investments Marketing at BNY Mellon. Prior to BNY Mellon, Nicole worked at J.P. Morgan Private Bank, where she served as the Executive Director of Global Investments Marketing. Prior to J.P. Morgan, Nicole held positions at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, New York Life, and Oppenheimer Funds. Nicole earned her MBA in Marketing and Finance from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business and graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service with a B.S. in International Economics with a Concentration in Finance & Commerce. She holds her Series 7 and 63 licenses.


Director, Product Specialist

Colin is responsible for managing relationships with our wealth management clients in the Northeast. He has over nine years of experience in the asset management and financial services industry. Prior to joining CAIS, Colin worked in Mexico City for Endeavor’s Entrepreneur Search & Selection team. Colin received his BA from the University of Vermont.


Director of Operations

Sean Meehan is Director of Operations at CAIS. He is responsible for platform transactions and ecosystem integrations. Sean has over 8 years of experience in alternative investments and financial services. Prior to CAIS, he worked at BNY Mellon and received his BS from the University of Connecticut. Sean holds his FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.


Managing Director, CAIS IQ

Nic brings over 18 years of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked at firms including BlackRock and Salient. As Managing Director of CAIS IQ, he is responsible for developing investment intelligence and insights to help drive industry-wide education on alternatives. Nic received his Bachelor’s degree from Deakin University and his Master’s degree from FINSIA, both located in Australia. Nic also holds both the CFA and CAIA charters.


Director, Finance

Markus Persson is responsible for leading all areas of finance and accounting for the firm. He has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, having worked at firms including KPMG and Point72. Markus received his B.S./M.S. from Long Island University and is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York.


Senior Managing Director, Structured Solutions

Marc Premselaar heads the Structured Solutions group at CAIS. Marc is responsible for overseeing the origination, distribution, and client coverage across all regions for the Structured Solutions group. He has over 13 years of capital markets and financial services industry experience. Prior to joining CAIS, Marc worked at Barclays Wealth, K2 Global Consulting, UBS Wealth Management. Marc received his BS from the University of Maryland and holds FINRA Series 3, 7, 24, and 66 licenses.


Director, Technology Business Management

Deepak Puri is Head of Business Management, Technology at CAIS. He brings over 20 years of business management, portfolio analytics and planning experience in the technology domain and financial services industry. Prior to joining CAIS, Deepak has worked in a similar capacity at financial institutions including Barclays, JP Morgan, State Street and Standard Chartered. Deepak holds an MBA from National University of Singapore, and a BS from Delhi University, India. He also holds a Chartered Accountant degree from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.


General Counsel

Michael Richman is the General Counsel at CAIS and is responsible for firm legal, compliance, and regulatory affairs. He has over 13 years of experience with a focus on alternative investments and wealth management. Prior to CAIS, Michael served as Director and Associate General Counsel for Alternative Investments at UBS. Prior to UBS, Michael worked at Fortress Investment Group. Michael received his BS from Yeshiva University and JD from Fordham University School of Law. Michael holds the FINRA Series 7 license.


Chief Marketing Officer

Director, Product Specialist

Judah Schulman is a Director on the Alternatives Investment group at CAIS. Judah has over seven years of experience in the asset management and financial services industry. Prior to joining CAIS, Judah worked in New York City for Morgan Stanley and UBS in their Wealth Management Divisions. As a Director and Product Specialist, Judah is responsible for overseeing the ongoing management and new businesses development across the firm’s Midwest wealth management clients. Judah received his BS in Psychology from Yeshiva University and holds the CAIA charter as well as FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.

Tim Shannon is President and CFO of CAIS and is responsible for firm management and business development. He has over 26 years of experience in alternative investments and wealth management. Shortly after launching his career, he founded Praxis Advisory, later acquired by Bank of America,. He has held positions as Head of Business Development at Morgan Stanley Hedge Fund Partners, Managing Director at Citigroup Private Bank, COO of Traxis Partners and COO of Bernstein Private Wealth Management. Tim holds an MBA from The Wharton School and a BS from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses.


Chief Innovation Officer

Andrew Smith Lewis is the Chief Innovation Officer at CAIS and is responsible for key firm initiatives with a focus on furthering education and learning. Andrew is one of the founding members and original co-inventors of Cerego – an AI-driven human intelligence platform that enables anyone to learn anything. He wrote his first book in Japanese “Learn Faster, Remember Longer” and he co-authored “Social Learning Revolution” in 2008. His passion for research stretches back to his high school days at Bronx Science, and inspired him to start three education and technology companies in Tokyo, where he lived for nearly 25 years. Andrew has many years of conference speaking experience. Most recently he has presented at top industry events such as Schwab Impact, T3, SXSW, EDUCAUSE, ASU/GSV, Transforming EDU/ CES, Army Medical Symposium and Exposition, US Army TRADOC Mad Scientist, and EdTech Europe.


Director of People Experience

Alessandra van der Meulen is responsible for curating internal culture as a competitive advantage by spearheading recruiting efforts and managing employee experience. Alessandra has over five years of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked at DG Capital. She received her BA from the University of Virginia.


Senior Managing Director, Head of Products & Distribution

Brad Walker is Senior Managing Director of Alternative Investments and Head of Products and Distribution at CAIS. He oversees client management, product origination, product support, product distribution, and leads the firm’s enterprise relationships. Brad has over 16 years of asset management and financial services experience. Prior to CAIS, Brad was the Director of Platform Distribution for Highbridge. Brad also worked at Morgan Stanley and Carlin Equities LLC. Brad received his BSBA from the University of Delaware. He holds FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses.


Chief Technology Officer

Shane Williams is the Chief Technology Officer at CAIS and is responsible for overseeing the Product, Design, and Engineering teams. Shane brings over 20 years of experience working across the full spectrum of technical leadership, product management, and technology digital transformation within the Wealth Management and Alternative Investments industries. Shane is deeply committed to understanding customer needs in order to develop innovative technologies from concept to launch. Prior to joining CAIS, Shane spent 12 years at UBS, and most recently he served as the Head of Client Technology at AQR Capital Management. Shane received his BS and Master’s in Engineering from The University of Manchester.

Kristin Zaehb is Director of Fund Operations. She has over 15 years of operational experience in the alternative investment and financial services industry. Todd L. Boehly is Co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Eldridge. Mr. Boehly is an owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Sparks, Cloud9, and DraftKings.

He is Chairman of Security Benefit, and MRC, which owns dick clark productions, and has investments in A24, Fulwell 73, and Penske Media, which owns Billboard, Rolling Stone, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter. Eldridge has made investments in over 70 operating businesses.

Mr. Boehly is also on the boards of Cain International, the Los Angeles Lakers, Kennedy Wilson (NYSE: KW), PayActiv, Truebill, CAIS, Vivid Seats (NASDAQ: SEAT), and Horizon Acquisition Corporation II (NYSE: HZON).

Prior to founding Eldridge, Mr. Boehly was President of Guggenheim Partners and founded the credit business at Guggenheim.

He received his B.B.A. from The College of William & Mary, where he later founded The Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance, and studied at the London School of Economics. Todd Gilbert is a Principal at Eldridge, which he joined at its inception in 2015. He focuses on platform development and investment opportunities across the capital structure of numerous asset classes, including credit, private equity, growth equity, real estate and venture capital. He helps oversee Eldridge’s financial services and real estate investments and helped develop the firm’s equipment finance and real estate net lease platforms. Prior to joining Eldridge, Mr. Gilbert was a Managing Director at Guggenheim Partners and focused on principal investing, business development and strategic transactions for Guggenheim, as well as private equity, corporate credit and special situations investments for its funds. Mr. Gilbert currently serves on the Board of Directors of Stonebriar Commercial Finance, Blackbrook Capital, National Realty Trust, Capital Integration Systems (CAIS) and Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, and is actively involved with various other Eldridge businesses. Mr. Gilbert received his B.B.A. from the University of Michigan.

Tony is a Co-founder and Partner of Square Peg Capital. From inception in 2012, Square Peg today is a venture capital fund that invests in Australia, Israel and Southeast Asia with a focus on Series A and Series B.

Tony has deep experience in technology, media and telecom investing and advising and has worked and lived in Melbourne, New York, Sydney and Asia. From 1991 through 2006, Tony was with Merrill Lynch in the Investment Banking division. From 2006 through 2008, Tony was a Managing Director at Citigroup’s Sydney Investment Banking Group and Head of its TMT business in Australia and New Zealand. In 2008 Tony joined Macquarie Capital where he worked until co-founding Square Peg Capital. While at Macquarie Tony held a variety of roles including co-head of TMT for Asia and Head of Principal Investments for Macquarie Capital Asia.

Managing Director

Ellen is Managing Director of Silicon Valley Connect, working with organizations and entrepreneurs on opportunities for “networked innovation”. She also spends much of her time actively managing a portfolio of over 50 startups either as an angel investor or advisory board member. Additionally, she is a member of the Board of Directors for learning technology company Instructure (NYSE: INST), commercial real estate finance company Walker & Dunlop (NYSE: WD) and social network for military and veterans company Rallypoint. She has been appointed as a Senior Advisor to the President of Arizona State University, named the “most innovative” US university by US News & World Report for four consecutive years, and co-chairs their Innovation Council.

Ellen spent the better part of a decade working with LinkedIn, including having served as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, head of Corporate & Business Development and member of the Executive Team, and her original role as Advisory Board member when the company was first founded. Prior to LinkedIn, Ellen spent two years running a groundbreaking program at Stanford University, facilitating collaboration between industry partners, Silicon Valley, and the University research community by championing questions having to do with people, technology & innovation. Over her career, Ellen has held formal roles in venture capital (Softbank Venture Capital; NeoCarta Ventures; Draper Fisher Jurvetson), startups (WhoWhere, sold to Lycos; Softbook Press, sold to Gemstar; LinkedIn, LNKD), technology think tanks (Interval Research), large corporations (Apple Computer, AAPL; PriceWaterhouse Coopers), and universities (Harvard University; Arizona State University; Stanford University).

Referred to as the "Most Connected Woman in Silicon Valley," Ellen now focuses a good deal of her time on topics generally associated with dynamic, rapidly-growing startups; on all aspects of the “Future of Work” (automation, AI, job displacement, skills training, and education), on various aspects of social networks within “the enterprise”; and on what it takes to build, foster and leverage innovation ecosystems and supporting organizational models.

She has a BA from the University of Michigan, and MA/PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Stanford University.


Chief Operating Officer, Qontigo

Neal is a computer scientist with 26 years of experience in the Financial Industry. He spent 16 years of his career at quantitative managers D. E. Shaw & Co, and AQR Capital Management, where he served as Partner and Chief Technology Officer. He has also led large engineering organizations in his roles as CIO of UBS Wealth Management based in Zurich, Switzerland, and Group CIO of Deutsche Bank, based out of New York. Neal has been a recurring member of the "Institutional Investor Top 50 in Tech” lists and is currently working with early stage technology start-ups as an advisor and investor. Neal has a BS in Computer Science from Brown University.

Andy's firm, 1812 Park, leverages my skills and experience over the past 30 years as a President, CEO and entrepreneur in the wealth management industry. He is an executive team member for approximately ten companies to help guide CEOs, executive teams and Boards in developing and executing on their long-term strategies and business plans.

In his past, Andy has helped build two high-value, high-profile companies – Fortigent and Lydian Wealth Management. Fortigent was a leading Turnkey Asset Management Program (TAMP) focusing on advisors with high-net-worth practices. With approximately $70 billion of assets under advisement on its platform, Fortigent was sold to LPL Financial in April 2012. Lydian was an RIA specializing in wealth management solutions to the ultra-high-net worth community. With over $8 billion of assets and an average client size of approximately $45 million, LWM was sold to CitiNational Bank of Los Angeles in 2007 ​to spearhead the bank’s wealth management practice.

Andy serves as a member of the Board of Advisors of Vestigo Ventures, a venture capital firm launched to fund early-stage companies offering disruptive innovations in financial technology services and Silver Lane Advisors, a premier investment bank focused exclusively on the financial services industry.

Andy is an investor in and/or advisor to a group of technology companies that, he believes, will impact the way wealth management firms engage their clients and how they run their back offices (Advizr, Betterment, and Quovo).

Andy is also an independent board member for eleven SEC registered actively managed ETFs.

Managing Director

Michael N. Bapis, Managing Director with Vios Advisors at Rockefeller Capital Management, brings over 20 years of wealth management and private banking experience to the practice.

Michael is dedicated to assisting clients and families, institutions and professional athletes and entertainers by providing knowledgeable insight and highly personalized client service. In utilizing global asset allocation concepts and tactical investment strategies, Michael works with clients and families to create financial portfolios that align with long-term goals and optimize their wealth.

Michael began his career at Morgan Stanley in 1998, where he spent time in various departments learning a wide array of skills and knowledge within the financial services industry. A year later in 1999, Michael became a financial advisor. During this time, he was promoted to a Senior Vice President, Wealth Advisor and honored as a member of the prestigious Chairman’s Club — a group that highlights the top 150 advisors in the firm.

Michael joined Rockefeller Capital Management in September 2018. Prior to Rockefeller, Michael spent a decade at HighTower. Michael is considered a thought leader in the financial services industry, having regularly appeared on CNBC’s Trading Nation and Worldwide Exchange, Bloomberg TV and Yahoo Finance.

Karen Joy Bean is the VP, Investment Products for Kestra Investment Services, LLC based in Austin, Texas. Karen is responsible for strategically leading the Alternative Investment Platform, Annuity and Variable Insurance Platforms, Trust Platform, Financial Planning Suite as well as Due Diligence oversight for the firm. Collectively Karen has over 25 years Sales and Marketing experience both in and out of Financial Services.

Karen’s Financial Services career began in 1997 when she joined the American Funds in Brea, CA. Over the 10 years she spent at the American Funds, Karen enjoyed success as an Internal Wholesaler, Sales Desk Manager and Retirement Subject Matter Expert.

Before joining Kestra, Karen was the Vice President of Internal Sales and Service for a non-traded REIT firm in Southern California. At the REIT firm, Karen was responsible for training and managing the Sales Desk, as well as training the External Wholesaling Force. She was also responsible for the oversight of the day to day customer service operations as well as subscription agreement compliance.

Karen is a Board member of the Investment Program Association and is active on the Due Diligence committee. She also actively serves on the Financial Services Institute, Due Diligence committee.

Karen has a Bachelor’s degree from California State University at Fullerton in Marketing with a Sales Management emphasis. She holds a 7, 24, 66 and 63 license.


Kudu Investments
Managing Partner

Lee is a Managing Partner at Kudu Investment Management (KIM), which offers tailored capital solutions for asset and wealth management firms globally. Through KIM’s capital partnership with Oaktree Capital Management and White Mountains Insurance Group, Lee and the team invest minority stakes designed to minimize disruption while providing strategic guidance for growth. In addition to Lee’s role at KIM, he frequently guest lectures at universities in the United States and Europe.

Over the prior fifteen years, Lee led distribution and related execution teams at some of the world’s most successful investment management firms, including BlackRock, JP Morgan and PIMCO, where he also served on various executive, operating and global investment committees.

Before becoming an executive leader, Lee was an institutional and middle market account manager for Federated and PIMCO, covering Fortune 1000 companies, Governmental Entities and separate account relationships. Lee began his career as a university coach and assistant professor.

Lee earned an MA in Foreign Literature and Languages from the University at Albany, an MBA in Finance from Daniels College of Business at The University of Denver and was a PhD candidate at the University of Colorado. His quest for knowledge drives his ongoing education.

Dayna Kleinman has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. In 2020, CAIS In Common (“CIC”) plans to host a speaker series, inviting six women leaders across industries whose stories and ethos match each of CAIS’s core values. CIC is designed to be inclusive and encourages all employees to engage and participate, adding to CAIS’s culture both within our walls and beyond.

Director of People Experience

Alessandra van der Meulen is responsible for curating internal culture as a competitive advantage by spearheading recruiting efforts and managing employee experience. Alessandra has over five years of experience in the financial services industry, having previously worked at DG Capital. She received her BA from the University of Virginia.


Vice President | CAIS IQ

Nusrat Ahmed is responsible for creating educational content for CAIS IQ. She has 3 years of experience in financial writing and UX research. She has a BA in anthropology and is pursuing a part-time masters in cognitive science.
